I love taking part in workshops, and despite living very close to Caroline and the kids taking lessons with her for years, I was yet to take part in a workshop myself. So this week, I treated myself to an afternoon workshop, and it was bliss !
Workshop : Watercolour with Aquaroline
Aquaroline is run by Caroline Berry, from her workshop in Voulême (86400).
I met Caroline after we moved to the village, back in 2018, when the children started going to her watercolour classes. If you are in the area and have creative children, I can recommend her classes wholeheartedly.
The children absolutely love her, and they always come home with the most incredible art!
You can find more information on the watercolour classes she runs on this link : Cours d’Aquarelle.
Caroline has travelled extensively, and is absolutely passionate her work and her art.
The Class
We started off with the basics, as I am a complete novice when it comes to watercolour.
Caroline took the time to explain the various materials used by a watercolour artist, from the paints, the brushes, the paper, and everything in between.
She then explained some of the techniques used in watercolour, and invited me to experiment with them.
I also spent some time creating different shades of the same colour, as well as creating new colours in order to colour match with items I was going to paint.
Once I had tried the basic techniques, it was time to create my first botanical board (planche botanique). We went out to the garden to choose some flowers. We settled on a beautiful purple Geranium.
My Feedback
I did not see the time go by, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Focussing on finding the right colour, observing the details in the flowers and the leaves in order to recreate them in as much detail as possible… I found myself getting completely absorbed by it all.
It felt like a great mindfulness activity.
Additionally, as well as leaving the class feeling relaxed and content, I left with my paintings. Considering this was my first attempt, and I do not usually consider myself patient enough for crafts that require patience and fine attention to detail, I’m really pleased with my creations.
Caroline’s company and teachings are also a huge highlight of the class. I love how her passion shows, and hearing stories from her travels and experience over the years. Another favourite thing of mine, is talking to fellow creative minds. Spending the afternoon with Caroline, I left feeling inspired and more creative, and what more could I ask for? I’m already looking forward to my next class !
